The camp programme included thematic educational workshops, some of which were led by representatives of the applied anthropology organisation “Anthropos”. The workshop “Changing Concepts of Body (Non)normativity in Circus in the 20th–21st Centuries” explored transformations in the concepts of the body, normality, and otherness — from the 19th-century phenomenon of “freak shows” to contemporary socially engaged circus, where the body functions as a reflective and expressive subject.

In another workshop, “Social Research as a Practice of Relationship, Power, and Responsibility: Experiences of Knowing the Other,” the process of social research was examined through the metaphor of “monstrosity”. The session addressed the limitations of knowledge, ethical considerations, and the dynamics of the relationship between the researcher and the researched, encouraging participants to reflect on the challenges of understanding another person’s experiences and worldview.

“Krasnucha. The District That Doesn’t Exist?” is part of a research series exploring Vilnius neighbourhoods that are often considered uninteresting. The project invited people to take a closer look at the part of Savanorių Avenue known by locals as Krasnucha and explore how this place, surrounded by myths and stereotypes, is seen and experienced by its residents. During the activities held from May to September 2023, the community explored the neighbourhood’s environment, biodiversity, and history, while creating personal stories about the place. High school students also spent a year observing their surroundings and presented their discoveries in an exhibition at the Vilnius Museum. Around 150 people participated in the project activities, more than half of whom were current or former residents of Krasnucha. The collected stories, connections built, and community engagement became the foundation for the 2024 exhibition of the same title.

The programme includes seminars introducing key themes and issues, discussions, excursions, hands-on testing of research methods in specific situations, non-formal education activities with reflections, and film screenings. In the series of remote events "Science and Feeling: Are Your Feelings Really Yours?" organized by “Estetikos Somelje” we conducted a workshop. During it, we tried to answer if the senses we feel and the feeling we have are really yours? Do they depend on society, culture and social status? We talked about how our senses are affected and shaped by the relationship between social status, culture and power. We showed how they are understood and explored in anthropology - how they are socially constructed, formed and collectively mediated. We invited participants to try sensory ethnography method and reflect their experiences in order to understand how they are intertwined with personal and collective social and cultural position.

During the workshops with high school students, we explored how anthropology approaches food and food consumption, examined the social and environmental consequences of food waste, and discussed practices that can help reduce the amount of food being discarded.

Anthropology as a discipline studies humans, groups of people, cultures, and social groups. To explore these groups, it uses ethnographic methods such as participant observation and interviews. These methods, along with the knowledge gained through understanding cultural and social “others” or learning to view one’s own cultural and social environment from an outside perspective, can be valuable not only in academic research but also when working with various communities and groups.
As part of the Kaunas 2022 Community Programme, we were invited to deliver two training sessions for community activists and facilitators.

We conducted 3 workshops for Kaunas Public Library. The two workshops were for library guests, during which we talked about sustainable food consumption in the form of a picnic. Later that year, with the invitation of the library, we conducted training to library staff about climate change and it’s discourses.

During the pandemic in the autumn of 2020, we worked remotely with students from Skuodas Art School and run two workshops on the food system and climate change, as well as on cultural representation and cultural understanding.

After the short films "The Monsoon Show" and "Dulse" shown in the Inconvenient Movie Festival’s program for schools “Inconvenient Movie Classroom” , we had a workshop with students in grades 4-6 about climate change - the relationship between human action and nature and ecosystems. Where are we humans? The Inconvenien Movie Festival topic of 2019 is “We and They”. Here the question for us arise - how does this differenciation is seen in our civilization’s approach to the nature that led to the climate crisis?

In 2019, at the contemporary circus festival “Cirkuliacija”, Anthropos organized an anthropology workshop during which, by wandering through the Dainava district of Kaunas, we sought to understand the relationship between private and public life in the so-called “bedroom suburbs”.

At the TEDxKaunas 2019 workshop “BEYOND THE OBVIOUS”, we explored what lies behind the seemingly obvious by examining the biography of a single product — sugar.
